The Moonstone

Gabriel Horncastle runs a successful jewellery business and has arranged a party for his friends and family.

Is it perhaps an engagement to the lovely Rachel? Or will it end up being something more sinister? Among the guests are his sister Penelope Horncastle, his Business Manager Rosanna Jennings, Rachel’s friend Museum Curator Dr Franklin Cuff, and friend of the Horncastle family Detective Chief Inspector Appleby of Scotland Yard.

It’s a special day for Gabriel because it was exactly 50 years ago that his parents married. It would have been their Golden Wedding. It was also 50 years ago to the year that his father, a renowned archaeologist, had made significant finds in Peru that had sown the seeds of a successful business which, following his father’s death, he now runs.   The party should have been a great success. However, before the evening is out, one of the party is dead and a very precious stone has gone missing.

All the clues are there to lead to the right conclusion, but will they be correctly deduced? The Detective Chief Inspector Appleby, with the help of the other guests at the Dinner must get to the truth before the night is out!

Saturday

Final Curtain

It is 1932 and a company of actors shortly to appear in Cornwall are meeting up for a convivial evening with friends. They have been rehearsing the brand-new play “Black Coffee” written by celebrated Devon crime writer Agatha Christie. It had closed in London the previous year and was now midway through a national tour. So far, the tour had proved highly successful and the play had been playing to packed houses.

The company was managed by the renowned actor/manager Sir Lawrence Middleton who was playing renowned Belgian detective Hercule Poirot in the production. However, he was not without his problems on this tour.

The cast are later joined by Detective Chief Inspector Appleby who comes to give them disturbing news.

All is not as it seems and, as the evening progresses it is clear that tensions exist and long kept secrets begin to come out. Before the night is over there is another death and it is down to Inspector Appleby, with the help of the other guests, to investigate.

All the clues will be there to lead to the correct conclusion, but will they be correctly deduced?
