2016 Tour of Britain to Return to Devon
Cycling lovers staying at our UK caravan parks this September will be delighted to hear that the Tour of Britain is returning to Devon in 2016, after a 1 year break from the county.
The Devon stage of Britain's biggest cycle race will take place Friday September 9th and covers a huge 93 miles, starting in Sidmouth and finishing at the summit of Haytor on Dartmoor.
Stage six will see some of the world's top cyclists take to the roads, and if years gone by are anything to go by, Devon will be out in force to support the riders and event.
Devon County Council Cabinet Member, Stuart Hughes, said: "The Devon Stages in 2013 and 2014 were unforgettable occasions. Record breaking crowds turned out across the county and boosted the local economy by almost £12m.
"This year's stage promises to provide another great show case for our beautiful county as a premier destination for cycling tourism."
Sections of the 150km route will be particularly accessible for anyone staying at South Bay on their UK caravan holidays. The stage starts in Sidmouth, with the peloton racing through Honiton, Tiverton and Crediton before finishing with a 6km climb from Bovey Tracey to Haytor.
For those not lucky enough to be in Devon during the tour, you can catch the whole thing on ITV4 from Sunday September 4th.
