Is Cornwall set to host Radio 1’s Big Weekend?

If you've spent the beginning of 2015 researching summer events for your caravan holidays in Cornwall, I've got some awesome news that might have you rewriting those itineraries!

This year could see BBC Radio 1's biggest annual music festival head to the shores of our very own Cornwall!

Cornwall Host Radio 1 Big Weekend | John Fowler Cornwall Holiday Parks

A Facebook page has been setup calling for Radio 1 to bring its Big Weekend to the county, and has hit the ground running with more than 25,000 people signing up already.

Aiming to raise the profile of the South West's music scene the group, Get Radio 1's Big Weekend to Cornwall, hopes the BBC will take action.

The page has over 1,000 likes and more than 25,000 people have been confirmed as “attending” the prospective event since it was created last week. Group creators are hoping for another push to 30,000, sending a bold statement to event organisers.

The annual free festival changes location from year to year and has previously been held in Londonderry, Carlisle, Bangor and Glasgow. Last year in Glasgow the event attracted some of the biggest artists in the world, including performances from Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and our home grown gem Sam Smith.

The event looks set to take place late May or early June, but a venue is yet to be selected, prompting members of the group to suggest some locations near our holiday parks in Cornwall, such as St Ives and Bude.

Fingers crossed this happens – would make for a great Foxy Gang jolly!
