Crowdfunding success helps Devon surfer chase world record waves

Being a keen surfer myself, I like to keep up to date on the local surf scene when I come and visit you guys during your family weekend breaks, particularly the goings-on of North Devon's big-wave ripper Andrew Cotton!

You might recognise Cotty as the surfer of that monster wave earlier this year, or from your family holidays UK where he lifeguards at Croyde Beach.

After narrowly missing out on the world record with THAT wave at Nazaré, Portugal...

Andrew Cotton World Record Surfing | John Fowler Family Holiday Parks

I'm stoked to hear that his 'Behind The Lines' crowdfunder campaign has raised over £10,000!

Despite all the success and exposure of his season this year, he still couldn't find a main sponsor – an essential ingredient for an expensive campaign. Success in the crowdfunder project means he can continue his globe-trotting efforts to surf the world's biggest wave, and capture the footage for us all to check out.

Speaking from Nazaré where he is putting together a support team in anticipation of giant waves, Cotton said he was overwhelmed with the generosity and support many had shown towards his search for a world record.

“I can't believe the support and encouragement I've been given from everyone, it's been amazing.”

“It's pretty nerve racking as I feel I've really put myself out there, which I've never done before.”

“I can't wait to tackle every swell possible now and build my big-wave momentum up. Let's hope the ocean plays ball.”
