Development plans for Ilfracombe Aquarium get the go ahead
After a lengthy application process, development plans for Ilfracombe Aquarium were finally given the go ahead last week.
Solar panelling will be fitted to the south-facing roof, a new café deck with unrivalled views over the harbour will be added, the Rocket Shed next door will be connected to the main building and more space will be created for exhibits.
The educational aquarium, which has been located in the Old Lifeboat House since it's opening, has become a popular attraction for visitors on caravan holidays in Devon, and the approved developments will see increased visitor appeal throughout the year.
Speaking to the North Devon Journal, Ilfracombe Aquarium's Director Lawrence Raybone said: "I'm delighted. It enables us to realise the potential of the site and it will be a lovely illustration of our commitment to Ilfracombe."
The developments will also have a direct positive impact on other nearby businesses, as well as creating further employment opportunities.
Work on the aquarium is expected to commence in October, so you can visit with the family this summer while staying at our caravan parks in Devon.
