Dog-friendly holidays to North Cornwall

North Cornwall is a paradise for dog lovers. With its dramatic coastlines, sandy beaches, rugged moorland, and cute villages, it’s the perfect destination to explore with your four-legged friend.

Whether you’re after a bracing coastal walk, a lazy day on the beach, or a cosy pub lunch, there’s something for everyone – paws included!

Top dog beaches

Cornwall is famous for its beaches, and plenty of them welcome dogs year-round.

Daymer Bay – A sweeping sandy bay near Rock, perfect for long walks and splashing in the surf. It’s spacious enough for your dog to run free, and there are stunning views across to Padstow.

Watergate Bay – Just north of Newquay, this huge stretch of sand is dog-friendly all year. There’s plenty of room for fetch, plus dog-friendly cafés nearby where you can grab a post-walk coffee.

Widemouth Bay Beach – Just steps from Widemouth Bay Caravan Park, this sweeping sandy beach is a dream for dogs. Parts of the beach are dog-friendly year-round, with plenty of space for running, digging, and paddling. At low tide, it’s absolutely huge – perfect for a good game of fetch.

Tail-wagging walks

The South West Coast Path is a must for dog walkers, and North Cornwall’s section is especially dramatic.

Tintagel to Boscastle – A challenging but rewarding walk with clifftop views, waterfalls, and wildflowers. Dogs will love the fresh sea air, and you’ll love the scenery.

Bedruthan Steps – A jaw-dropping stretch of coastline with towering rock stacks. While the steps themselves are currently closed, the clifftop path is dog-friendly and offers breath-taking views.

Polzeath to Rock – An easier route with estuary views, dunes, and sandy beaches. Great for pups (and people) who prefer a slower pace.

Chapel Porth Beach & coast path – Only a short hop away from Perran View Holiday Park, Chapel Porth is famous for its dramatic cliffs and engine house ruins. While summer dog restrictions apply on the sand, the coast path here is superb and dogs are welcome all year. Head towards Porthtowan for a bracing cliff-top walk.

Dog-Friendly Attractions

It’s not all about beaches and walks – there are plenty of places in North Cornwall where dogs are welcome.

Tintagel Castle – Steeped in Arthurian legend, this English Heritage site allows dogs on leads here. Explore the ruins and cross the stunning footbridge together to make some pawsome memories.

Bodmin Moor – A wild, open landscape with tors to climb and streams to paddle in. Pack a picnic and enjoy the freedom.

Camel Trail – A flat trail following a disused railway line between Padstow and Bodmin. Perfect for a long, leisurely walk or cycle with your dog trotting alongside.

Pubs and cafés for paws & people

After all that adventuring, you’ll need a cosy spot to refuel – and luckily, Cornwall does dog-friendly dining very well!

The Port William, Trebarwith Strand – A classic Cornish pub overlooking the sea, welcoming muddy boots and sandy paws.

The Widemouth Manor – Just up the road from the beach, this clifftop pub has stunning sea views and a dog-friendly bar area. Great for sunset drinks after a beach walk.

Blue Bar, Porthtowan – Right on the beach, this laid-back bar and café is dog-friendly all year. Perfect for a post-walk coffee, cake, or sundowner.

Tips for Dog Owners in Cornwall

  • Always carry water for your dog, especially on long walks.
  • Watch out for adders on the moors and coastal paths in warmer months.
  • Keep dogs on leads near livestock and cliff edges.
  • Respect any seasonal beach restrictions (most are dog-friendly from October to May).

North Cornwall is one of the UK’s best destinations for dog-friendly adventures. Whether you’re clambering along windswept cliffs, relaxing on sandy shores, or enjoying a hearty pub lunch, you’ll find that Cornwall welcomes dogs with open arms. So pack up the lead, the tennis ball, and maybe a towel or two – and get ready for a tail-wagging adventure!
