Exciting shake-up in store at this year’s South West Birdman
One thing I can guarantee is you'll find me around our holiday parks in Devon at the start of August. Most importantly to entertain to you guys on your family holidays, but also to catch some high-flying entertainment myself at the South West Birdman Competition!
Once again event organisers are recruiting adrenaline junkies to take the leap from Ilfracombe Harbour, all aiming for a winning distance to snatch the crown of South West Birdman Champion.
The unique competition returns on August 1st, and would-be pilots have already begun creating their makeshift aircraft in preparation for the event.
In previous years, competitors have been scored on the distance of their flight as well as creativeness of costumes and aircraft. However 2015 will see an exciting shake-up to the judging...
Marc Newland, Event Organiser, said: "We are giving each team a two or three minute time slot before they jump to put on a performance, and these will be judged as well.â
"We are looking for some crazy ideas, the noisier the better. Hopefully it will be a bit more drama for the crowd and help get the jumpers riled up a bit. But also we are hoping it will open the door to some mad ideas."
In addition to the scoring changes, the event as a whole has been given a freshen-up â this includes free entry for the first time in 10 years.
This year follows a West Country theme, with an inflatable bar hosting a Cider and Ale Festival, Farm Olympics, welly-wanging, and a full programme of local live music.
I wonder if I can tempt the Foxy Gang into entering a team?! What do you guys think? Are you planning to visit Birdman during your Devon holidays?
