Five fun facts about Wales
Wales is iconic for its rural beauty and strong traditions. But did you know these five facts?

1. Wales has more castles per square mile than anywhere else in Europe. So if you’re into history, you’ll pretty much trip over it on a holiday here!

2. A village in Angelsey has the second-longest name in the WORLD! Deep breath, here it goes: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Nailed it first time? Yeah us too…

3. Dobby the house elf met his end here. Freshwater West beach in South Wales was used to film a number of scenes for Harry Potter, including Dobby’s death. You can visit the grave today and pay tribute to the nation’s favourite house elf.

4. There’s an Italian village in North Wales. Yes, you read that right. Though the climate might not always trick you into thinking you’re in Italy, the architecture of Portmeirion in Gwynedd will certainly trick the eyes. Architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis was such a big fan of the country that he just had to bring it to Wales, back in the 19th Century.

5. You can kayak along the top of the highest aqueduct in the world. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct carries the Llangollen canal across the River Dee. Standing at 38m high it’s the highest aqueduct in the world and you can kayak across it! Strong stomachs for this one.
