Freddy’s guide to sport in Somerset

Hey gang, it's me, Freddy!

I'm off to visit a Somerset holiday park again this year and I'm so pumped for it. I don't know when I'm going yet, but I'll be staying at Sandy Glade Holiday Park and that means I get to go and watch loads of sport!

Although I don't know when I'm going, I've still planned out what sport is on offer – it might even give you ideas for days out on your holidays in Somerset!

Rugby

If I go early in the year the rugby season will still be running, which is brilliant.

I can watch Bath in the last few rounds of the Aviva Premiership and the Amlin Challenge Cup which will be awesome! George Ford is my favourite player – he's just so cool!

Even if Bath aren't playing at the Rec I can still watch some good rugby because Taunton are in National League 2, Weston-super-Mare are in National League 3 and my favourite team, Bridgwater and Albion, are in South West 1.

Football

Somerset might not have any football clubs in the premier league but it does have one of the best non-league teams going – Weston-super-Mare! The seagulls play in Skrill South and have a chance of making the play offs and getting promoted this season.

Somerset's best club is Yeovil – who are in the Championship and I might make a trip to Huish Park to watch them play if I get a chance.

There are loads of other clubs not far away too, like Torquay United, Exeter City and Bristol Rovers and City.

Cricket

Somerset are one of the best counties in County Cricket and have some brilliant players. They play in Taunton and if I'll definitely be taking a trip to the County Ground during the summer.

My favourite players are Jos Buttler and Craig Kieswetter – they absolutely smash the ball all over the park! Marcus Trescothick is a brilliant captain too – I wish he was still playing for England.

Scrambling

Every summer in Somerset there's an amazing motorbike and quad bike race on Weston-super-Mare beach.

The Weston Beach Race is incredible and I love seeing people on high powered motorbikes go flying over sand dunes. Literally thousands of people take part too – it's carnage!

Speedway

Another motorsport Somerset is brilliant for is Speedway.

The county has one of the best teams going – Somerset Rebels! Last year they were triple champions! They won the Premier League, the Knockout Cup and the Premier League Pairs.
