Humpback Whale sightings in South Devon

Hello my dear old friends, there has been some exciting news down here at our South Devon Holiday Park in Brixham. Two extraordinary humpback whales have been spotted just off the coast of Torquay only 8 miles away from our South Bay Holiday Park.

These playful whales have been filmed leaping out of the sea, splashing in and out of the water and have been attracting visitors from across the UK. It is thought the whale is coming in to feed on herring and mackerel, which are also attracting large number of gannets. According to whale watchers most sightings have been late afternoon or early evening.

The Sea Watch Foundation, who records sightings of whales, said it was rare for humpbacks to be seen off the UK coastline until about five years ago, when sightings increased from about five per year to between 15 and 30. Humpback Whales can grow up to 60ft and can weigh up to 40 tons and you could see one of these beautiful mammals during your South Devon caravan holiday.

If you are one of the lucky ones to see these amazing creatures please post your pictures to our Facebook page as I would love to see them!
