Ilfracombe to welcome MS Prinsendam cruise ship this summer

While you and I are likely to travel to our UK weekend breaks on 4 wheels, a large group of American visitors are making use of Ilfracombe's coastal location to visit by cruise line!

The town is making preparations to welcome MS Prinsendam again this summer, after a successful visit back in 2011.

Ilfracombe To Welcome MS Prinsendam | John Fowler UK Short Breaks

The Holland America liner, expected to be carrying hundreds of American passengers on board, will be cruising in to Ilfracombe on July 26th, with a visit already planned for next year too.

Weather permitting, MS Prinsendam will make the short journey from Holyhead in Wales, with passengers coming ashore to spend the day in Ilfracombe, Exmoor and other parts of North Devon.

Rob Lawson, Ilfracombe harbourmaster, said although it was still early, plans are in the pipeline to welcome the passengers on their UK short breaks.

He said: “They will be made extremely welcome as always and we need to encourage those who won't be going on the tours to come ashore and enjoy the town.”

“We are hoping businesses will rise to the challenge and come up with some novel and innovative ways to welcome and entertain our American passengers.”

The cruise liner's return to the area follows promotional campaigns by the marketing group Destination South West, as well as negotiations with the ship's agents.
