Kenny's Home Grown Tomatoes
Hello boys and girls, it's Kenny here.
I've been making the most of the warm weather and spending some time in my garden while we are in lock down. Today I'm going to tell you all about how you can grow your own tomatoes at home. It's really very simple. You will need:
- Toilet roll tube
- Kitchen roll
- String
- A tomato
- Compost or soil
Cut a toilet roll tube in half. Take a sheet of kitchen roll and fold down in 4 quarters. Wrap the kitchen roll around one end of the tube and secure with string. Fill you tube with compost or soil. Take a tomato and cut in half to remove the seeds. With your little finger make a hole in the middle of the soil about 2cm deep. Take one seed and place it in the hole. Cover with soil and water.
Put your tube in a sunny position (either in the garden or on your windowsill) and water daily. After about 2 weeks, you seed should start to sprout up. Continue to water. Once it is well established you can put your tube into a medium size plant pot filled with compost. The tube and kitchen roll are biodegradable so can be transferred straight into the pot without disturbing the seedling.
Put your pot in a sunny position where your plant will continue to grow. Once well established, you will need to use tomato feed once a week and support with canes once fruit starts to form. Your tomatoes shoul be ready to pick and eat by the end of Summer.
I'm off for a lie down now. Have fun.
