Oscar Winning Star From Cornwall

I've just been catching up on all of the gossip from the Oscars here at our Cornwall caravan parks, from the best to the worst dressed, the highs and the lows! A huge congratulations to all of the 2018 winners, especially Cornwall's own Maisie Sly, who made her acting debut in the film The Silent Child .

6 year old Maisie has won an Oscar in her performance in the short film The Silent Child, playing a deaf girl born into a middle-class family and living in a world of silence until a caring social worker teaches her the gift of communication.

Maisie was born in Plymouth but lived in Cornwall until her family moved to Swindon to give Maisie and her siblings for better specialist education for deaf children.

Her father told Devon Live "Maisie is representing a whole deaf community on the screen, we as a family are part of that community and can't express how proud we are of her"

The film won 'Best Live Action Short Film' at the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday night. It was written by Rachel Shenton a British actress who delivered her acceptance speech in sign language as a promise to Maisie.

Congratulations!
