Pawabunga! Surfing dogs raise a barking mad $6,000 for charity
So this might not be local news, but I know it'll put a smile on the faces of visitors to our dog friendly caravan parks!
Back in August I blogged about 5 water sports your four-legged friends could get stuck in to during your pet friendly holidays UK. Surfing was met with some groans and prompted replies like: âthere is no way dogs can surf!â â well here's the proof folks!
On Sunday, world famous Huntington Beach in California hosted 2,500 excited fans, crammed on the shore to watch 65 dogs take on the waves in the sixth annual Surf City Surf Dog competition.
Cementing its growing status, the event was the most popular in its history and even raised more than $6,000 for the competition's charity partners.
âThis is our largest event yet,â said event organiser Lisa Scolman. âIt's exciting to see where dog surfing is going and to see it growing and growing.â
British Bulldogs to pugs were seen amongst the surf, competing in categories based on size and weight, with an additional class for tandem surfing â pet and owner!
Do you think we'll see a similar event staged at popular surfing spots like Croyde or Woolacombe?
