I've just had a sneak peak at the August event calendar around Cornwall and it looks like we're in for another superb month!

Miracle Theatre presents The Tempest | 30 July-30 August

With the original script respectfully adapted and stirred, Miracle Theatre applies its humour to the timely Shakespeare classic The Tempest.

Enjoy a night under the stars with all the family in some fantastic open air theatre locations around Cornwall. Pack a picnic, sit back and be entertained!

On the 24th August The Tempest is at Perran Round, the site of Miracle's first ever performance and very close to Perran View Holiday Park. The play comes to Restormel Castle near Trelawne and Killigarth Manor on the 27th and 28th August, so clear an evening in your diaries.

 

Falmouth Week | 08-17 August

Falmouth Week is one of the largest sailing regattas in the West Country, with keelboats, traditional yachts and multihulls racing over a week of competition.

The headlands off of Falmouth, St. Mawes, the Helford and Mylor are the perfect vantage points for those keen to take in the action on their cheap family weekend holidays.

It's not just the exciting sailing you can look forward to, there's also a busy programme of shoreside events for the whole family to get stuck in to. These include craft markets, “Science in the Square” and a great line up of live music, dance and theatre.

Every year Truro's Lemon Quay is transformed into a sports and activity centre, as the Be Active Truro Festival hosts an abundance of free sports, 'come and try' activities and professional demonstrations.

Be Active Truro is part of a wider initiative - Get Active Cornwall, which encourages people to be more active and participate in regular exercise.

 

St Michael's Mount Spectacular Fireworks | 12 August

You might be more used to seeing St Michael's Mount under the summer sun, but on August 12th you can watch spectacular fireworks illuminate the Mount out of the night's sky.

The Firework Spectacular marks the 60th anniversary of a special partnership between the National Trust and St Aubyn family.

The dazzling display will have St Michael's Mount as its dramatic backdrop and can be viewed from the beach at Marazion, close to Kenegie Manor. The firing of the Mount's own cannons will start the event, with a magnificent finale set to light up the entire bay.

 

Fowey Regatta & Carnival Week | 17-23 August

The Fowey Regatta and Carnival is a must visit for anyone staying at Killigarth or Trelawne Manor during the third week of August.

You'll be joined by visitors from around the world enjoying a week packed full of events.  Highlights include a spectacular aerial display over the harbour by the red arrows, a vibrant Carnival procession through the town's streets, the giant pasty ceremony and crabbing contest for the children.

The Regatta is one of the UK's best sailing events and with an exciting programme of races, it's hard to disagree. You can watch the famous Troys, a class of sailing boat built only in Fowey, gig racing and even a raft race.
