Philps of Hayle celebrates being the best pasty shop in Cornwall
Being a chef I like to explore the local cuisine of the places I visit. Having spent a lot of time in Cornwall, I'm always surprised at how diverse the pasty landscape is down there. Ingredients and methods vary from shop to shop and the coveted âbest pasty in shop in Cornwallâ title has divided locals and visitors on their caravan holidays in Cornwall for years.
The Cornishman, The Cornish Guardian and The West Briton took it upon themselves to run a poll on the most popular pasty shop in Cornwall and the winner was conclusive.
Winners with over a third of the overall votes were Philps of Hayle, who are based very close to Tolroy Manor Holiday Park.
Sam Philps said:"Coming top of the poll is no surprise. I think that we are aware that our pasties are very popular. But with Hampson's of Hayle in there, too, I think we can claim Hayle is the pasty capital of the world. We'd like to thank all the customers and readers who voted for us."
In joint second place, each claiming 8% of the votes were St Just's Warrens and Falmouth's Rowes. Fourth place was taken by Ann's with 6% and Hampson's, also of Hayle placed fifth with 5%.
The Official Top 5
1. Philps â 36%
2. Warrens â 8%
=2. Rowes â 8%
4. Ann's â 6%
5. Hampson's â 5%
