Prestigious Green Flag awarded to Ilfracombe park
Bicclescombe Park is one of the most popular spots in Ilfracombe for visitors staying at our dog friendly holiday parks. Lying in a sheltered valley boasting a sunny environment, the park offers a haven for dog walkers with its winding paths, running stream and many ponds.
Ilfracombe's beautiful harbour often receives the town's plaudits, but it's Bicclescombe Park that's in the headlines this week, as it's once again awarded the prestigious Green Flag.
The flag is awarded by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, to recognise the best parks and green spaces around the country.
The announcement comes as no surprise, the park's consistently high standards secure the Green Flag year after year â 2014 is now the 11th consecutive year Bicclescombe has received the award.
On August 20th, those visiting the area on dog friendly holidays UK can watch the flag-raising ceremony â this will be taking place midday at the park.
Geoff Fowler, Town and district councillor, said: âTo be awarded the Green Flag once is impressive, but 11 times is outstanding. Well done to all involved for making our park the wonderful place that it is.â
Bicclescombe isn't the only local park to gain this recognition, with Yeo Valley Community Woodland also awarded the Green Flag status, for a fourth time.
Executive member for parks, leisure and culture, Councillor Derrick Spear, said: âThis is brilliant news. These awards prove to everyone that North Devon has amazing parks and that is testament to the Parks team and all the volunteers that play a vital role in their upkeep.â
