Somerset’s Famous Willow Man Makes Top 10 Landmark List
Good afternoon folks.
Whenever I make the journey back to our holiday parks from being up country, I see the famous Willow Man on the M5 and think of it as a kind of "welcome to the West Country".
It's an iconic welcome that appears to resonate with tourists to the area, as a survey from the National Express resulted in the Willow Man making a list of the top 10 UK roadside landmarks.
The sculpture, located near the Bridgewater junction on the M5, placed in 6th, only beaten by world renowned landmarks such as the Angel of the North and Clifton Suspension Bridge.
The 12-metre tall Willow Man is a creation by local Somerset artist Serena de la Hey.
The official top 10 landmarks...
1. Angel of the North, A1
2. Forth Bridge, A90
3. Clifton Suspension Bridge, A4
4. Severn Bridge, M48
5. Stirling Castle, M9
6. Willow Man, M5
7. QEII Bridge, M25
8. Spaghetti Junction, M6
9. Emley Moor transmitting station, M1
