Things to do in South Devon
Tucked away in the English Riviera, Brixham is one of South Devon’s most picturesque fishing towns. With its colourful harbour, historic sites, stunning coastal walks and seaside charm, it’s a perfect destination for families, couples and solo adventurers.

Wander the harbour & waterfront
Start your journey at Brixham Harbour, the heart of the town. Watch fishing boats come and go, and in spring and summer you might spot seals or even dolphins playing in the bay! The harbour is surrounded by cafés, seafood restaurants and quirky shops - ideal for a leisurely morning stroll.
In the heart of the harbour you will find the staggering replica Hind ship – but more of that next…
Take a scenic walk out to Brixham Breakwater for incredible views over Tor Bay, especially magical at sunset. Think picnic blankets and sunset selfies.

History & heritage
For a dose of maritime history, climb aboard the Golden Hind Museum Ship, a full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous galleon. You’ll feel transported back into the age of exploration. With plenty to learn above and below deck, it’s a great option whatever the weather.
Just a short walk away, Brixham Heritage Museum showcases fascinating local history, from smuggling and fishing to wartime stories and archaeological finds.

Nature & walking
Brixham sits on the famed South West Coast Path, offering breath-taking cliff-top walks with sea views and wildlife spotting opportunities.
Don’t miss exploring Berry Head National Nature Reserve, a stunning headland with dramatic views, rare wildlife and historic Napoleonic fortifications, plus an active lighthouse perched above the sea.
For a peaceful stroll and picnic, Battery Gardens is a lovely green spot to relax and let the world go by.

Beaches & swim spots
Brixham’s coastline is dotted with hidden gems like Fishcombe Cove and Churston Cove - perfect for paddling, picnics or coastal hikes. Directly accessible from our South Bay Holiday Park is the beautiful St Mary's Bay. But be careful, you'll need to descend the 100 steps to reach it - but totally worth it!
If it’s swimming you’re into, the historic Shoalstone Pool — a tidal seawater lido beside the sea — is a local favourite in summer and an absolute must for wild swimmers!
Whether you’re here for the history, the views, or just some fresh sea air, Brixham delivers a fantastic mix of heritage, nature and seaside fun — all wrapped up in classic Devon charm.
