Top 5 beaches in North Devon

It’s no secret that North Devon is home to some of the most stunning and iconic beaches in the South West. It’s hard to pick just 5 for top spots, but we’ve done it!

Woolacombe

Perhaps one of the most well-known beaches in the UK, Woolacombe is a paradise for surfers and beach-goers. Celebrated as the world’s first ever surfing reserve, its three miles of sandy beach, blue flag status, water cleanliness and fantastic wave quality make it the ideal spot for anyone who loves a seaside getaway.

Croyde

A haven for experienced surfers, Croyde is truly on the map when it comes to catching waves in North Devon. With plenty of sand, surf and dunes, it’s a great base for a family day out too. New to the John Fowler family, Ruda Holiday Park is nestled right on the beach. No seriously, you can literally walk from the entrance and have your toes in the sand in less than one minute!

There are plenty of hire spots, including a surf school right on the park’s doorstep and our own beach-side hire shop! John Fowler Beach Rangers lead educational activities for families throughout the peak season and the Blue Flag status make it a great choice for everyone this holiday.

Saunton

Home to three miles of golden sands, rolling dunes and backed by a biosphere reserve, Saunton is a popular spot for surfers and families. Dogs are welcome on the beach all year, so the whole family can enjoy the beach fun together.

There are surf schools and hire shops on site, as well as shower facilities, ideal for getting the kids clean before heading back to the car.

Barricane

On the North side of the infamous Woolacombe beach, Barricane is a secluded shell beach with views to take your breath away. Known for its seasonal Sri Lankan curries from the café, which is winched in at the beginning of spring, it’s a great sunny spot for relaxing or swimming in the sea.

A steep slope leads down from the road and facilities are located around the town of Woolacombe.

Westward Ho!

The only place name with an exclamation mark officially part of the title, Westward Ho! is a great beach for families looking to get the traditional seaside experience. Westward Ho! is home to a varied arcade, making it an ideal spot whatever the British weather.

The Blue Flag beach is perfect for families, surfers, paddle boarders and kayakers, with plenty of space thanks to its long stretch of sand. There’s plenty to explore in the town, from bars and restaurants to quaint seaside shops. You won’t be lost for something to do.

You can easily visit all these stunning beaches from our three parks, Ruda, Sandaway and Combe Martin Beach.
