Winning Prize Money Increased For 2016 Ilfracombe Birdman
What’s on guys...?
Did you know one of the most entertaining events in the North Devon calendar is set for a shakeup this year?
Ilfracombe Birdman, which takes place on the harbour close to our Devon holiday parks, has doubled the winning prize money for 2016!
Ilfracombe Round Table Chairman, Doug Burton, said: “Anyone hurling themselves into the harbour from our jumping platform is pretty impressive – but the crowds love to see a real flight, so that's what we want to give them this year.”
“In order to encourage bigger and better flying machines, we've doubled the prize money for the furthest flight from £100 to £200.”
“We really want to see more wings, more hang-gliders, more bi-planes – the weirder and more wonderful the better.”
The unique competition returns Saturday 30th July, and makeshift pilots have already begun crafting their flying machines, with the added incentive of more cash to be won!
Although the aim of the game is to soar through the sky the furthest, wacky designs and imagination don’t go unnoticed: “There is also a £200 prize for the best, most entertaining entry which will be deemed by a panel of expert judges,” added Doug.
As well as the taking in the main event, visitors on their caravan holidays in Devon will also get to witness rescue displays from the St Athans search and rescue helicopter and Ilfracombe's RNLI lifeboat crew.
