Wales is full of magical places to explore, and waterfalls are always a family favourite. From gentle woodland cascades to a rare waterfall tumbling onto the beach, these natural wonders make perfect day trips with the kids. 1. Tresaith Waterfall (Cardigan Bay). Stay at Cardigan Bay.

An amazing coastal waterfall that falls directly onto Tresaith Beach at low tide. The setting is magical, complete with rainbow sprays and dramatic cliffs. The nearby village offers essentials like a café, shop, and pub.

2. Ffynone Waterfall (near Cardigan). Stay at Cardigan Bay.

Nestled in ancient woodland about 7 miles south of Cardigan, this hidden gem is set within Ffynone Wood with beautifully clear pools, ideal for wild swimming. The walk from the car park is easy and takes about 20 minutes – perfect for families.

3. Cenarth Falls (Teifi River, near Cardigan Bay). Stay at Cardigan Bay.

A charming series of cascades located in a quaint village between Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn. The falls are easily accessible with minimal walking and stunning views over a 17th-century bridge.

4. Devil’s Bridge Falls (Rheidol Valley, near Aberystwyth). Stay at Llanrhidian.

This dramatic site features a waterfall plunging beneath three bridges, surrounded by ancient woodland. It’s accessible via the Vale of Rheidol steam railway and feels straight out of a fairy tale.

5. Pistyll Rhiwargor (Lake Vyrnwy area). Stay at Llanrhidian.

One of the tallest waterfalls in Wales, dropping roughly 100m, set within the scenic RSPB Lake Vyrnwy Reserve. The walk from the free car park to the falls takes about 20–30 minutes on an accessible path.

Well-suited for a relaxing yet impressive nature walk.
