Freddy previews the 2015 Combe Martin Carnival
So we find ourselves on the eve of Combe Martin’s biggest annual event, and I’ve yet to preview it for you guys on your Devon holidays – come on Freddy get it together!
Well...finishing touches are being made as we speak, and tomorrow the festivities start at Combe Martin Carnival.
Taking place between 8th August and 15th August, with a brand new team of event organisers, the Combe Martin Carnival programme is again bubbling with all out family fun!
The carnival officially kicks off tomorrow, with the Grand Opening at the Pack O’ Cards from 3pm. The afternoon’s entertainment includes a Circus Skills Demonstration, Human Wheelbarrow Racing, Tug-o-Wars and live music into the evening.
The Fairy Queen Night will be held on August 10 from 6pm at the Village Hall. There will be various stalls and family entertainment all evening, for visitors as well as locals.
The week’s main spectacle, the Carnival Parade, takes place on Wednesday 12th August. Hundreds are expected to line the village’s streets, as colourful floats and themed on-foot groups make their way down to the sea front.
The next day has got to be my favourite of the week! Competitors take to Combe Martin Beach to compete in the annual Raft Race. It’s quality to watch, with some interesting fancy dress on show as well as some impressive hand-made vessels!
On Friday, August 14, the evening activities will begin with the Wheelbarrow Fiesta Parade ahead of a stunning beach fireworks display in the evening.
Celebrations culminate with a motor show back at the Pack O'Cards on Saturday from 10am, with the carnival finale and presentations taking place in the evening.
