Devon has the only town with an exclamation mark!

Westward Ho! is the only place with an exclamation mark in its name. The village in North Devon was named after the Charles Kingsley novel, which means it is the only place to ever been named after a work of fiction.

Devon invented the Jack Russell

The first Jack Russell Terrier was made by Reverend John Russell who was born in Dartmouth and went to school in Plympton. He bought a dog named Trump who had stumpy legs, large ears and was brilliant at digging around.

Devon has the only 16 sided house in the country

The only 16 sided house in the country is La Ronde in East Devon. The house was built for two spinsters after they returned from a tour of Europe. The decor is extraordinary including  a feather frieze and a shell-encrusted gallery containing nearly 25,000 shells.
